Port Sailing Center owns and operates the
sailing school and Teen Caribbean Sailing. Port Sailing School is proud
to be affiliated with the American Sailing Association. The school was founded in 2004 by Chris
Nihill who started teaching sailing in 2001 with the Oyster Bay Sailing
School. Chris started the school with three older boats and the dream to pass on
his passion for sailing.
Today the school owns and operates a
fleet of nine sailboats supported by a launch and chaseboat. The days of
the old boats are gone. The daysail fleet is now comprised of Sonar and
J 24 one-design boats. The Sonar fleet is used as the primary teaching
boat. The cruising fleet consists of 2002 Beneteau 36 and 2002 Dufour
Gibsea 43. The Dufour is based in Tortola to support the Caribbean operations.
All boats are kept in top condition.
Whether our customer choose to learn to
sail or charter a boat they will find a friendly, patient staff with
quality boats ready to serve their needs.

We have the team and equipment to serve you on
and off the water.
We are very proud of our summer staff. Many have now or soon will be
Naval, Merchant Marine and Coast Guard officers. Our instructors have an
average of 10 years' sailing experience and are U.S. Sailing- or
American Sailing Association-certified instructors. All instructors on
boats greater than 30 feet are U.S. Coast Guard-licensed captains.
As you might
imagine, working at the sailing school is fun. We love teaching people
how to sail and take pride in our fleet of boats. Having a diverse fleet
and qualified instructors provides our customers with the opportunity to
build the skills and confidence required to handle any boat.
