Our Team
Our Jr. Sailing instructors have an average of ten years of sailing and four years of coaching experience. Every employee is held to a high standard; each coach holds a minimum of a US Sailing Small Boat Level 1 instructor certification. Furthermore, all instructors are certified in CPR and first aid. Our Junior Sailing program is co-directed by Chance Oplustil and is supported by our senior instructors and coaches.
Chance Matthew Oplustil
- PSS/HYC Head Race coach
Chance is a homeschooled resident of New Rochelle with over five years of sailing experience in Lasers, Optimists, Fevas, 420s, and Sonars. He served as a Junior Instructor at the Larchmont Shore Club for three years and currently works as an Instructor at Port Sailing School, where he teaches and mentors developing sailors. Having grown up on the water, Chance has developed a strong foundation in seamanship and a deep commitment to the sport. He has competed in six regattas and earned numerous awards through Larchmont shore club, reflecting both his technical ability and competitive dedication, and he aspires to continue advancing his sailing career while maintaining a lifelong connection to the water.

Carl Colangelo- HYC/PSS Instructor
Carl is a Harrison resident and a student at Harrison High School. He has four years of experience sailing Optimist dinghies and extensive experience working with children. Carl serves as a coach at Huguenot Yacht Club on City Island and also coaches at the end of the season at Port Sailing School in New Rochelle. Known for his professionalism and strong instructional skills, Carl is a highly effective and dedicated sailing coach.
Zidan Tuan - PSS instructor
Zidan Tuan is a Mamaroneck resident and a student at Mamaroneck High School. He has five years of sailing experience, with a background in Optimists, Sonars, and 420s. Zidan works well with children and has a strong passion for being on the water, bringing both enthusiasm and reliability to his sailing and instructional roles.
Kamil Tomza Head PSS Instructor-
Kamil offers professional coaching in adult sailing, racing, and adventure sailing programs. Currently enrolled in a 101-level training program at the French-American School of New York (FASNY), Kamil brings over nine years of hands-on sailing experience across a variety of vessels, including Optis, Sonar 23s, Pixels, and Club 420s.
Kamil’s background combines strong technical skill development with extensive on-the-water experience, enabling sailors of all levels to build confidence, improve performance, and deepen their understanding of sailing techniques. He is passionate about creating a safe, engaging, and challenging environment tailored to each sailor’s goals—whether recreational or competitive.
Daniel Wolfgang Menz - PSS instructor
Daniel Menz is a New Rochelle resident and a student at Iona Preparatory School. He has been sailing at Huguenot Yacht Club for over six years and brings a wide range of on-the-water experience. Daniel has sailed big boats as well as 420s, Fevas, Lasers, and J88s, and has competed in more than 10 major regattas, demonstrating a strong commitment to competitive sailing.
