Port Sailing has offered our very popular Junior Sailing Camp for over 15 years and our 2-week program is ideal both experienced and novice sailors. The Junior Sailing program is hosted at Echo Bay Yacht club on Echo Island which is accessible from the sailing school office at the New Rochelle Marina. Membership to the club is not required. This program requires a commitment by the parent and child to participate in a sport and learn to sail.
No refunds are available after June 15.
Located in the protected Echo Bay of New Rochelle, we have over 15 boats available for our junior sailors to sail. This includes Optimist, Bic Open, Pixels, and Sonar boats.
Please bring a life jacket, water, sunscreen, a hat, and wear water shoes or flip flops.
Our Junior Sailing Instructors have an average of five years teaching sailing & are certified by US Sailing or the American Sailing Association. Each instructor strictly adheres to our curriculum to ensure a consistent and safe learning experience.
Full Day Program
9 am to 4 pm
Ages 8 to 16
This program is available for youths ages 8 through 16, for both beginner and experienced sailors. Students are grouped by age and/or experience. Small children learn to sail Optimist dinghies advancing to higher performance Open Bic boats. Older children sail Open Bic, Zuma, Pixel, and Sonar boats. Dinghy sailing takes place in the protected area of the bay around five islands park. Instructors coach students form a motorboat and float. Bring your lunch and a vest type life jacket. A swim test wearing a life jacket is required.
By the second week, our junior sailors will be racing their boats and performing other boat handling skills.
Other activities include rules of racing, plotting courses, reading charts, and anchoring.
This is a rain or shine program. Must commit to a two-week program.
Bic Open Sailboats - Easy to Sail and Fun
Skipper's Program (Half Day)
9 am -12 noon
Ages 8 to 10
This is an Optimist dinghy sailing program for the little guys both beginners or returning sailors. Beginners will learn to rig, capsizes, and sail their 8-foot Optimist sailing dinghy. Returning sailors can sail higher performance Open Bic boats. Bring a life jacket (vest type). This is a rain or shine program.

Junior Sailing Event at EBYC
Parents Visiting Day
Come join us at Echo Bay Yacht club for lunch with your child at noon on the second Wednesday of each session. Launch service to the island departs from B Dock at the New Rochelle Marina starting at 11:30. Siblings and friends are always welcome. Lunch is served from 12 noon to 1:00 PM. Fee $5 per adult, no charge for kids. Please RSVP by email.

Returning sailors are encouraged to participate in this EBYC race event. Races start at 10:30 am on Saturday. Skippers meeting takes place at 9:30 am. One design class boats include Opti, Bic Open and Pixel. Award ceremony and lunch takes place at 12:30. Fee of $75 includes awards, coaches, boats, and lunch for parents and children. The spectator area is located on Echo Island at the Yacht club.

Closing ceremony for the end of the Junior Sailing program. Dress in your pirate best. Ceremony runs from 11:30 to 1:00 pm and includes lunch. Fee for adults is $10 and children eat free. Junior Sailing Staff
Counselor in Training (CIT)
Ages 15 and older
This program is open to students 15 years of age or older with three years prior sailing experience. Completion of ASA, YRA or US Sailing certification program is a plus. Applicants should have prior sailing experience on boats greater than 15 foot in length. Persons entering this program are preparing to become a Junior Sailing Instructor. Applicants should be mature, responsible and demonstrate leadership skills.
During the program applicants will complete the NY State Safe Boating Program, CPR and First Aid training. This is a great gateway to a future position teaching sailing at camps, yacht clubs and sailing schools. All CITs are supervised and mentored by a Port Sailing instructor.
This is limited program requiring an interview. Port Sailing does not guarantee future employment.
Junior sailing (pirates) proclaim that they are leaving Echo Island until next year.
